Visit the Porter County Museum on Thursday, March 2, 2017 from 5:30-7p to look back at Porter County’s successful Bicentennial celebration! During the reception, enjoy refreshments and view a display of Bicentennial artifacts, images, and video provided by Indiana Dunes Tourism. This exhibit celebrates the successes of the 2016 Indiana Bicentennial. Get your picture with this replica of the bicentennial torch that passed through all 92 counties, and share using #beachesandbeyond, #indiana200 and #pocomuse. In Porter County, Indiana Dunes Tourism coordinated the bicentennial and 55 people served as torchbearers. There were also dozens of Bicentennial Legacy Projects carried out in Porter County during 2016, including the placing of a historical marker in Burns Harbor to commemorate the boundary that allowed the dunes area to be in Indiana, not Michigan. Also, 11,000 acres of land was preserved in honor of the bicentennial, including hundreds of acres in Porter County. While you’re at the Museum, take a look at the past 100 years of Porter County history through the Museum’s 100 Years 100 Objects exhibit. The Museum will also display photos and artifacts from Porter County’s Indiana Centennial celebration of 1916. We hope you can join us in celebrating the events of 2016 as we envision what the next 100 years might have in store!
