The Porter County Parks and Recreation Department will host its annual Spring Out to Sunset Festival on Saturday, May 18, 2019 from 12-4pm at Sunset Hill Farm County Park. This family friendly event includes games, bounce houses, archery, guided hikes, food vendors, and wagon rides. There will also be a beer garden for adults. Entry is only $5 per car.
New to the Spring Out festival this year is a registered Kansas City Barbeque Society competition. Teams from around the Midwest will compete for cash prizes totaling $5,000. Awards for the competition will be given at 3:30pm. “The addition of the BBQ competition this year is going to be a lot of fun,” said event coordinator Madison Binkowski. “We’re looking forward to welcoming teams to Sunset Hill who have never been to the park, or maybe even to Northwest Indiana.”
Also adding to the excitement of the day is a blues concert immediately following the festival at 4pm. Mojo Morganfield, son of legendary blues musician Muddy Waters, will headline. Locals James Gedda and Jack Whittle will play as well. The concert is $10 per person, kids 12 and under are free. Beer and pretzels will be available during the concert, and wagon rides will transport concertgoers to and from the outdoor amphitheater.
Payment for the festival entrance from 12-4pm is cash at the door. Concert tickets are available at the door, but are also available in advance online. More information about the festival and concert can be found at www.portercountyparks.org/springout
