Purdue Northwest Summer Experience camp offers taste of college experience
HAMMOND, Ind. — A new summer camp offered by Purdue University Northwest (PNW) gives high school students a taste of the college experience. Taking place July 22-26, the PNW Summer Bridge program is an extraordinary opportunity for rising high school sophomores and juniors to see what college is like and discover pathways to 21st century careers.
Through a collaboration between PNW’s Honors College and Office of Concurrent Enrollment Programs students will experience campus life and have an opportunity to stay in one of PNW’s residence halls, with a day camp opportunity also available.
“This pre-college experience is an incredible opportunity for students to get a taste of campus life by engaging with Purdue Northwest faculty and students all while acquiring and sharpening skills that will ensure their college and career readiness,” said Anne Gregory, director of the School of Education and Counseling as well as the Office of Concurrent Enrollment.
During this one week residential program, students will attend courses during the day with PNW faculty, engage with other PNW students, and take advantage of campus facilities. Evenings will find students immersed in cultural points of interest and activities in Chicago and northwest Indiana.
“Students have the option of choosing to study video game design or food and hospitality—two of today’s hottest career tracks. The exposure to faculty and students from these professional programs, as well as the Honors College, gives high school students a huge head start and access to apply for select scholarship opportunities,” said Karen Bishop Morris, interim dean of the Honors College.
Cost for attendance is $400 for residential camp or $325 for day camp only with a $40 non-refundable deposit. Applicants may also be eligible for a scholarship to cover camp tuition and fees.
