VALPARAISO – Women are invited to take charge of their health and take advantage of the free pap tests and other health screenings available Sat., Jan. 26 at the Valparaiso Health Center of St. Mary Medical Center. Free screenings are a part of St. Mary Medical Center Women’s Diagnostic Center’s annual Pap-a-thon event for the community to help provide support to uninsured or under-insured women. Discounted mammograms will also be available for just $98 at the event.
Pap tests are an important screening tool for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cervical cancer. Mammograms are key to the early diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer. Many women who are uninsured or under-insured may postpone these important screening procedures.
Community Care Network physicians and nurse practitioners will perform pap smears at the event. Physician referrals will be available for women who do not have a primary care physician.
The Pap-a-thon will also feature body composition testing, bone density screenings, certified bra fittings and chair massages. Light refreshments will be provided and door prizes will be awarded.
Pre-registration is required for pap tests and mammograms and availability is limited. Call 219-836-3477 or 866-836-3477 to register. The Valparaiso Health Center of St. Mary Medical Center is located at 3800 St. Mary Drive, just off IN 49 at Burlington Beach Road.
