NorthShore Health Center will provide free blood pressure screenings to walk-in patrons at both branches of Westchester Public Library. Blood pressure screenings are offered each month at the Thomas Branch on the first Thursday of the month and the Hageman Branch on the second Thursday of the month.
On Thursday, September 5 patrons can have their blood pressure screened on the first floor of the Thomas Branch in the Reference Department, between the hours of 10- 11 a.m. The Hageman Branch will offer blood pressure screenings on Thursday, September 12 between the hours of 10 a.m. – noon.
Blood pressure is the pressure of the blood in the circulatory system, often measured for diagnosis since it is closely related to the force and rate of the heartbeat and diameter and elasticity of the arterial walls. In addition to the free blood pressure screenings, interested patrons will receive help calculating their Body Mass Index (BMI).
The Thomas Branch is located at 200 W. Indiana Avenue in Chesterton, and the Hageman Branch is located at 100 Francis Street in Porter.
