VALPARAISO, Ind. — Gabis Arboretum at Purdue Northwest will end its 2019 concert series with a blues-themed night at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 14.
The headliner, Mike Farris, is known for his gospel focused blues set that rocks the house. As a 2015 Grammy Award winner, Farris keeps listeners hooked to his smooth guitar and soulful voice the entire evening. His style can be described as earthy, modern soul with a rock blues undertone. His performance is one the entire family can enjoy.
Opener, The Blues Project, is a local middle school group that not only learns the history and artistry of blues, but performs around the region. Their talent is evident in every performance they give.
“We are excited to end our season with such a prestigious performance,” said Stephanie Blackstock, executive director. “While the region is rich with musical artistry, the arboretum strives to bring in high-level artists that perform around the world, not just locally.”
Blackstock noted the concert series is made possible through the generosity of sponsors including: Bank of America/Merrill Lynch; Thorgren Industries; Indiana Beverage; Porter County Community Foundation; and Ribordy Liquors.
Food vendors for the concert include Valpo Velvet, Chicagoland Popcorn and Blue Chip: King of the Road. Ticket prices are $15 in advance and $20 the week of the concert; kids 12 and under are free. Tickets can be purchased online at pnw.edu/gabis-concerts or at the gate. Food, beer and wine will be available for purchase on site. Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs.
