• “Plastic Easter Egg Recycling at Valparaiso Compost Site”

Colorful eggs full of goodies are a sure sign that spring is here! After the Easter Egg hunts, what do you do with those gently used plastic eggs? Instead of sending the used eggs to a landfill or recycle bin, the Recycling & Waste Reduction District of Porter County is piloting a new way to reuse these containers for future egg hunts.
You may drop off gently used plastic eggs (that are in good condition) at the Valparaiso Compost Site. Plastic eggs will be accepted for two weeks, starting April 5 through April 19, at the Valparaiso Compost Site (2150 W. Lincolnway). The compost site hours are Monday through Saturday, 8am- 5pm.  After they are collected, staff will sanitize the plastic eggs and give them to local organizations for future egg hunts.
The Recycling & Waste Reduction District of Porter County is a state mandated agency dedicated to providing services and educational programs, which help residents, reduce, reuse, recycle and rethink. In addition to managing three compost sites throughout Porter County, the District also hosts household hazardous waste collection events, drop-off recycling sites, electronics and battery recycling programs along with many other programs and outreach efforts available to Porter County Residents. The District is funded by an annual $20 user fee added to property taxes of Porter County residents and businesses.
