VALPARAISO, IN – United Way of Porter County Women United donated $10,000 to support PACT Recovery Connection and The Caring Place.
The donation will go to support Recovery Connection’s holistic approach to helping people with addiction reconnect to their community and The Caring Place’s emergency shelter program for victims of domestic violence.
“These programs are more vital than ever in the wake of COVID,” said Kim Olesker, president and CEO of United Way of Porter County. “Through Women United, we’re helping to facilitate connection for those that need support the most.”
Beyond financial support, Women United members volunteer at Recovery Connection on Monday nights to provide social and skills activities for women who have struggled with addiction. Activities include cooking, games, craft time, women’s health, and budgeting tips.
“I am blessed beyond measure by the women I meet on Monday nights,” said Debbie Napier, Women United member of two years. “As often as possible I volunteer to support these fierce and strong overcomers. They have no idea how spending an hour with them fills my cup.”
Women United donated funds were raised through their annual spring fundraiser, Bunco Bash. Women United Porter County is open to women interested in sharing their talents and passion. To learn how to join, visit unitedwaypc.org/women-united.
