Westchester Public Library presents... Community Conversations A conversational approach to health-related topics led by local professionals. Thursday, September 28, 6:30 PM Baugher Center 100 W. Indiana Ave. Chesterton, IN 46304 Westchester Public Library invites the public to attend their new series, Community Conversations, which will feature area professionals sharing insight on health topics that may be difficult to discuss. After the great turnout and conversation that sparked from the screening and panel discussion of the PBS FRONTLINE documentary Being Mortal in April, program organizers knew the community wanted and needed similar programming. While these conversations might be challenging to start, it’s important that as a community we discuss various health topics. On Thursday, September 28 at 6:30 p.m. WPL will host the first installment of Community Conversations at the Baugher Center. Dr. Erik Mikaitis, Regional Palliative Care Medical Director of Franciscan Alliance, Inc., will be discussing palliative care. Palliative care is specialized medical care for people with serious illness. This type of care is focused on providing relief from the symptoms and stress of a serious illness. The goal is to improve quality of life for both the patient and the family. Topics will include the differences of palliative care and hospice care, what conditions may require palliative care, and treatment options. Registration for this educational program is highly encouraged as seating is limited. Registration can be done online at CommunityConvo1.eventbrite.com or by calling Karyn at the Thomas Branch, (219) 926-7696. The Baugher Center is located at 100 W. Indiana Ave., Chesterton. Doors open at 6:15 p.m. for reserved seating and Dr. Mikaitis will begin at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are not required to attend but will ensure you a spot as long as you arrive on time.
