About Us

1st American Management Co., Inc. was originally formed in 1975 as a department within the umbrella of the Harley Snyder Companies. The current President, John R. Marshall, took over the management of the company in 1989, and continued leading the firm up to and through the acquisition by Coldwell Banker 1st American in 1991.

In 1993, 1st American was formed and incorporated, and in September of 1993 Marshall purchased the company from the partners of Coldwell Banker. He is the sole owner of the company, the president of the firm and the CEO.

In 1994, 1st American purchased CCM Management and Homestead Homes Management and merged them into 1st American. In 1999, 1st American purchased the portfolio of two additional management firms, The Tara Group and Harbor Country Real Estate, both of New Buffalo, Michigan. The management portfolios of both companies were merged with 1st American.

Today the company employs 27 full-time, and 16 seasonal employees. 1st American has over 1 million square feet of office, retail and medical properties under contract as well as over 5,000 residential homes and condominiums.

1st American is the largest locally owned property management firm in Northwest Indiana, serving such high profile properties as Aberdeen, Walden, Woodmere, Beachwalk, Eastport Tower, and many other Northwest Indiana premiere properties.
