Valparaiso, IN – The Recycling & Waste Reduction District of Porter County invites residents to visit a compost site during International Compost Awareness Week, May 6-11, 2024. In celebration, the District will offer free loading of compost and mulch for Porter County residents Monday, May 6 through Saturday, May 11, 2024 at the Portage and Valparaiso Compost Sites. Non-residents will be charged a fee of $10/ per cubic yard for compost. Limit of 9 cubic yards a day per resident.
Valparaiso Compost Site: 2150 W. Lincolnway, Valparaiso, IN.
Loading hours for compost and mulch: Monday-Saturday 9 a.m.-12 p.m. and 12:30 p.m.-2 p.m.
Portage Compost Site: 6451 U.S. Highway 12, Portage, IN.
Loading hours for compost and mulch: Monday - Friday: 10 a.m.-2 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m.-2 p.m.
Composting is a resourceful method for recycling organic materials such as leaves and grass clippings, which create a nutrient-rich soil amendment. Compost can improve lawn and garden health, reduce soil erosion, keep waste out of landfills, and create carbon rich soil.
